Child Protection

Child Protection

The BBFC has set guidelines and procedures for our response to and responsibility for child safety and protection.

As a parent/carer you have the right to be informed about this and how it may impact on you and your family.

What do you need to know as a parent/carer about child protection

The BBFC recognises that both adults and children deserve to live free from harm or abuse. We also recognise that we have a responsibility to advocate on behalf of children who are not in a position to control the behaviour of the adults in their lives.

The BBFC is mandated by law under The Children and Young Persons (Care & Protection) Act 1998, to report suspected child abuse and neglect to the NSW Department of Community Services. Penalties and fines will apply to our Service if we fail to make a report for children and young people who are at risk of harm.

What do we mean by harm or abuse

Violence or abusive behaviour of any kind including physical abuse; discipline that is seen to put a child at risk; emotional abuse or torment; neglect of children’s physical needs; sexual abuse; children witnessing domestic violence and/or any behaviour that threatens a child’s right to safety.
