What is the Ballina Women’s & Children’s Domestic Violence Program?
We offer a specialist domestic violence program which aims to enhance the safety & wellbeing of women & children in the Ballina Shire by providing free & confidential support.
What can we offer?
We can assist with safety planning & counselling sessions; provide information & referrals on legal & moral rights to safety; advocate with police, Centrelink, courts & other government departments; assist with Family Law issues such as Parenting plans; & suggest referrals to other counsellors, psychologists or specialists.
Service available to women:
Women with domestic violence-related issues are entitled to at least 6 counselling sessions per year. Telephone appointments are also available. We can also assist with referrals to other legal or health practitioners. Women with past & present abusive relationships can attend a free support group run twice a year.
Service available to children:
Primary school-aged children who have been exposed to family & domestic violence
are entitled to attend 6 counselling sessions, sand play therapy &/or protective
behaviours sessions. We also facilitate support groups for children 8-11yrs. Topics
include: protective behaviours; alternatives to violence; bullying; and self esteem.
