What is the Volunteer Home Visiting Service?
The Ballina-Byron Volunteer Home Visiting Service (BBVHVS) is a credible home visiting service established to assist families meet the demands of raising young children.
The program employs a Co-ordinator and a Support Worker in the Ballina and Byron Local Government Areas.
What we can assist you with:
Families with a child/ren aged three years and under are matched with a trained volunteer to provide practical and emotional support.
The BBVHVS is a free service.
What a Home Visitor might do:
Examples of practical support:
Encourage and model confident empathetic parenting- Recognise a parent’s own abilities to reach their full potential as confident and informed carers
- Have a ‘cuppa’ and a chat, or go for walks and visit the park with parent and baby
- Listen to any concerns that parents may have about caring for baby
- Assist with preparing the baby’s bottles/meals
- Accompany parents to playgroups or baby health clinics
- Assist the parents plan weekly menus to ease the pressure of knowing what to feed the family
- Be another pair of hands for the family with a new baby.
